Combating corruption and communalism should go hand in hand

New Delhi: South Asia Bar Association Minorities (SAML) today called on the government and civil society groups to give equal importance to the fight against communalism that has been granted against corruption. In a resolution adopted at the debate entitled "Corruption, Lok Pal and the rule of law," the SAMLA urged all concerned to use a consensus against corruption to find an effective solution to the problem, both at central and state without defaming and denigrating personalities.

Speaking at the debate, Salman Khurshid, Minister for Minority Affairs and member of the committee bill set for Lok Pal expressed confidence that the committee could prepare a draft acceptable to all. He reiterated that the Union government has pledged to fight corruption and to reach a consensus on the Lok Pal Bill.

Eminent filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt said it was deep anger against corruption among the public and Anna Hazare was able to expand that anger. He said the fight against corruption can not succeed unless the issue of communalism was given the same importance.

Eminent journalist Vidya Subramanium said that India had witnessed two movements fighting against corruption in 1974 and 1989 JP under VP Singh, but gave no place to check corruption and that these movements lack of ideological direction. He stressed that the fight against corruption should not try to vitiate the atmosphere against politicians and personalities to open discussion that could be done on the subject.

Professor Afzal Wani, a professor of law at Indraprastha University, said a major factor behind the prevalence of corruption in the country was our failure to become a society that lives by the values given by the Constitution. He said that there was a need to develop a doctrine of separation of functions instead of the separation of powers.

Prominent human rights activist and lawyer Ashok Agrawal said Anna Hazare was a symbol of deep anger of society against corruption. He said his views on Narendra Modi were significant. He said the expression of popular anger against the problems that affect the lives of citizens are legitimate and should be encouraged to strengthen democracy. Deplored the restrictions on public places, especially the prohibition of demonstrations in Boat Club and said such actions by successive governments were directed to limit the popular expression and movement towards a "regulated democracy."

Navaid Hamid, member of National Integration Council, said that the decoupling of the issue of corruption in the fight against communalism had given impetus to the communal forces in the country. He cited the JP movement and the movement VP Singh as examples of such dangers. He said combating communalism should be an integral part of the fight against corruption.

Dr. Zafarul Islam Khan, president of All India Muslim Majlis Mushawarat, supported the movement against corruption and said the fight must be carried to its logical conclusion by attacking corruption and other forms of discrimination, communalism, etc. He said the government must ensure that the institution of Lok Pal was free and independent. He said: "We must strive to understand the true democracy in the country where all citizens can enjoy equality, dignity and freedom."

Fighting Corruption can not ignore issue of communalism

A land mark in the fight against corruption was initiated by political struggle Vishwnath Pratap Singh in the Congress Party and later when he was expelled in the period 1985-1989. As finance minister, ordered that the allegations of corruption against prominent businessmen felt. Many of them had to go to jail. Soon, he was sent to Ministry of Defence of ignoring public opinion against this big. Government of that day was usual in these things. Rajeev was surrounded by the circle and healthier advises completely ignored. As he moved to the ministry of defense, it was found that there was a commission paid to treat shell HDW ordered from Germany. The report also Bofors came out and made it difficult for Congress to hide his face.

Yes, VPSingh was dismissed from the core members of the Party Congress in its fight against corruption. However, success was something that became a symbol of the fight against corruption in India in the eighties. Students, middle class jumped up and joined hands. Your personal image is kept clean at all times.
The upper caste middle classes were the first to go in his car when they realize that he is ready to overthrow the government. The Brahmins of Varanasi anointed him with 'Rajarshi' title and that developed great good of the people is, the upper castes. The Sangh Parivar jumped into the fray. The BJP, which has been a bad mood after the great defeat of 1984 that are in reality an opportunity to ride a wave of corruption of VP Singh and has a healthy return for the elections to the Lok Sabha in 1989.

VPSingh came to power in 1989 with foreign support of the Left Parties and BJP. He said that people with integrity to take over the ministry. The government was working well. He was working on labor reform and the election. Host of other issues, such as Lokpal currently being studied. Moreover, the Janata Dal as a political party had pledged to meet quota of 27% for OBC.

On August 7, 1990, VPSingh announced the acceptance of the Mandal Commission recommendations in Parliament. Until a month passed and gradually all the upper castes realized that his grip on power is slipping, and less than a smear campaign that begins, will be completely out of power. Therefore, not only slander, but all that was available in the dictionary is used to defame the Dalits and OBC.

Middle-class Hindus were in the streets of the OBC quota. VPSingh became one of the most hated politicians of our time. While none of the Indian journalists ever want to say something about it. Today, when we are fighting corruption, none of these leaders even bother to mention his name. Why? The BJP withdrew its support and launched its Ram temple movement. To deviate from the real issue of the empowerment of CBOs, is rewritten in its fight against Muslim propaganda cycle, so that all dissident forces in the fall, with Hindus times in your line.

The answer lies in the upper caste hatred against anything that provides the connection of power to the Dalits and the marginalized. VPSingh was the bigger person, if he was talking about corruption and all, but became the worst since I started talking about Dalits and OBC. His administration not only share but also provided OBC reservation for Buddhists and Neo Centennial celebration of Baba Saheb Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar and honored with the Bharat Ratna. Similarly, Mayawati is not damaged while placating the upper castes, but has risen as the monuments of the Dalit Bahujan icons in the city of Lucknow, are angry because we feel that the natural heir of our roundabouts in the center the city are Gandhi, Nehru and our many Gods and Goddesses. The upper caste middle class feeling is that the Dalit Bahujan icons must remain in the BĂ„STIS and dalitwadas

When we talk about corruption, how can we ignore the illegal land deals in our country? How can Anna and her team feel that corruption is only in terms of money? Most corruption in India today is the sale of our natural resources, our land, forest and water. What is your position? What will make the powerful and well connected people do not buy the land just because they have money. Are we going to put a roof over land in India in spite of people's purchasing power? When civil society want to judge each judge on civil society? What is this civil society? Anna and her team made follow any principle of democracy in the formation of your team? How can democracy survive, to such blackmail tactics of Gandhi, who used to frustrate the separate electorate for Dalits'?

The issue of corruption is not light, but then those who want to fight against it must also remain clean. Yes, for people like us, not only must be clean, but also have faith in our secular and pluralistic values can not be preachers of hate. How are these multi-millionaires who have purchased their property in every state and even outside India involved in the fight against corruption? Anna and the equipment does not not know about Baba and his games, his property and money? Is it a struggle between those who say they have captured over one hundred million rupees and it is our time to do it? How can we talk about people? Democracy has to come from these individuals and work. Yes, corruption affects us all. Why not start work developing a movement from the ground that the land has been seized by local elites, who can donate large sums of money to these fellows fight against corruption. Should not we see these forces that we are projecting an alternative.

The fact that there is a crowd, does not mean you have the right to do anything. Crowd does not provide legitimacy. Many of our friends really feel that anyone who shows the crowd is great. Yes, folks Babas was not a multitude of social justice. Anna is similar crowd. The stupidity of the propaganda of the Sangh is that the incident comes as land Ramleela Jalianwallah slaughter. And see their happy faces at Rajghat. Sushma danced while Advani was comparing this incident to Jalianwallah Bagh. Never any question about the fictional land deals Ram Dev and Babas and others. If we ignore the vital corruption in terms of land in the name of stray dogs, temples, mosques and Gurudwaras, we can not fight corruption. In fact, we provide legitimacy. We can not start a movement in which they feel isolated population of India the majority, and fearful. The concern of 20% of Indian Muslims and other minorities are important and can not be ignored. It is not only corruption but also their place in India and collaboration in decision-making. How to enable Dalits, Adivasis, Muslims and cooperation of others in our movement if we allow all the reactionary forces in our decision-making. The fact that you want to delete the Congress party does not mean you can ally with anyone.

Yes, if the government and those who claim to work for us, really, then we must talk about corruption of all kinds, in all its forms, anywhere. And not to mention what is appropriate for the middle classes who began the corruption in the first place and now wants to lead the movement against it as well. We want the government release all documents in the land of temples, mutts, Gurudwaras, churches and mosques. Let people know how much money is there and is using it for what purposes. Anna Hazare and his team would make a great danger if not considered as corruption. Are they going to talk about it? Will you take the religious thugs sitting in our land and water and preaching austerity us?

The Hindutva forces are working at night on your calendar. They will use every platform to bring back power to the Brahmanical social order. After Ramdev, who want the return of Uma Bharati to counter Mayawati. While Congress brazenly sticking to the elite Brahmins in Uttar-Pradesh, the Hindutva is busy with testing and who else can do better than Shudras. It is time to understand the hazards of the struggle against corruption and those exposed tooth and nail. No one can be a major threat to India that the rise of Hindutva forces to power. Fight against corruption and expose the true source of it.

Indian Americans continue the fight against corruption in India

Houston Hindu leaders still standing in solidarity with a famous yoga guru, Swami even after Baba Ramdev and his supporters in New Delhi were removed by police when he began his fast against government corruption in India on Saturday.

Tens of fasting in the Arya Samaj of Houston, seen in a press conference Ramdev and discussed how the injustice done to him more than help them combat corruption in their country of origin.

"As an American Indian with no real connection other than the dharma or cultural connection with Bharat (Mother India), we have to support the movement for a free Bharat corruption," said Amit Misra, a lawyer in Houston. "Here in the U.S. to live a life free of corruption. Bharat could not be. It's a shame. To live an honest life, the middle class, who are better in the U.S. than in Bharat. It's a shame. "

The Hindu American Federation has also called attention to the incident with Ramdev, and 50,000 fans, as a human rights issue.

"The free, middle-of-the-night attack on Baba Ramdev and tens of thousands of peaceful supporters was disgusting to witness, and a clear attempt to divert attention from an unwillingness of the current government to curb corruption in ranks, "said Jay Kansara, an assistant director of the HAF. Reports say about 40 of Ramdev's supporters were injured in police actions at the weekend.

India has not ratified the UN Convention against Corruption as 140 countries and is being accused of hiding "black money" in foreign banks.

Ramdev, who has visited Houston to lead yoga retreats and working with MD Anderson in yoga as a possible treatment for cancer, has an international following numbering in the millions, thanks to its popular television program.

His last quick Mahtama has been compared to Gandhi, whose nonviolent protests contributed to the struggle for independence from India.

War against corruption in India

India is one of the most corrupt countries is well known. Perhaps ranks first in unaccounted money hidden in Swiss banks or in tax havens. After six decades of independence and India has made phenomenal progress in all areas [of manufacturing, healthcare, science and technology, education, etc], the country still has millions below the poverty line and poor infrastructure .

Corrupt politicians and the gangs that go hand in hand with having ruined the country. Pervasive corruption in the day to day has reached such proportions that the life of an ordinary citizen has become a nightmare. On a routine every morning disgustingly see a new scandal. Thanks to the media free and personal scandals are exposed worker and published. Wily politicians and greedy bureaucracy have all available means to destroy (and making false) evidence and gender are geniuses at different spinning the facts and even go down slightly. Democracy is kidnapped.

But then came a person, Anna Hazare, who captured the imagination of his countrymen, and there was a new phenomenon. He is 71 and of slight build, not a formidable personality by their appearance. I could not afford to finish school and had to leave after only 8 years. He entered the Army as a pilot, saw action in 1965 and 1971 wars with Pakistan and India are dedicated to improving the miserable situation of his hometown of Sidhi Gaon Rale 'thereafter. And a miracle occurred in the conversion of its affected by drought, poverty of the people assembled in an oasis with all the right in the year adequate water, greenery and plenty of food and other crafts. With tremendous force of persuasion that organized the settlers, made them leave the lifestyle of lazy, debt ridden, small dams built in the right places to catch all the rainfall was doing. He never married, gave all the savings I had for the people. After 25 years, the town is self sufficient and proudly speak of their revered Ana, which has no own house and kept in a temple.

But this was not all he did. It declared war on corruption and organized several campaigns against some of the big names. The pressure that led the government of his native state, he soon saw that six cabinet ministers forced to resign. He himself has used weapons of Mahatma Gandhi, fasting. He achieved many successes.

Anna has been aware that it is a great task to get rid of deeply rooted corruption in public life and often speaks of changing society itself. But never preached violence and all its campaigns have been peaceful.

India has a robust constitution complete with checks and balances to keep executive-legislative balance. Its judiciary has been fiercely independent and often takes the government to task on many issues. But despite all this, corruption is still flourished unabated. hotly debated argument is that agencies like the Central Vigilance Commission, Central Bureau of Investigation, the police, whose task is to investigate wrongdoing are not autonomous, as the Election Commission and are controlled by the government. In addition, you can not start the trial without many permits and approvals, etc. All processes have been launched so far are due to public outcry and the media, directions by the Supreme Court and petitions lodged in courts. The government, on its own, has never started anything. His interests are obvious.

There are "Lok Ayuktas', chaired by distinguished personalities in the state but have been ineffective and inefficient, and can make recommendations and have no powers to prosecute. Their reports simply collect dust.

2011, saw massive fraud. Anna Hazare then began his fast unto death in New Delhi. He demanded the Government to introduce a bill to establish national "Lok Pal ', which will be empowered to take suo moto notice of any scandal, do research, registration of cases, indictment and punish the guilty, even. Its recommendations are not binding and even the prime minister would not be exempt. the demand for Anna was that the bill to establish "Lok Pal 'in their terms should be introduced immediately. Under this project, rejected outright the draft prepared by the Government and declared as the most useless exercise that does not change anything. Anna insisted on a joint committee of ten members, half of which would be non-governmental personalities.

While the Government ignored only at the beginning, the public provided overwhelming support and thousands thronged the place where Anna was fasting. The media raised the stakes and two days after many channels were covering the event round the clock. It also caused huge debates. Personalities from all walks of life began expressing their support. Slowly, the government pushed to action. It sought to dilute the claims of Anna invoke constitutional difficulties. Anna remained defiant. I was losing weight, but kept his mind focused. The government apparatus at the highest level was shaken.

In the 5 th day of fasting, sensing public sentiment, the government caved in completely. A newsletter for notification to constitute a joint committee in terms of Anna, was issued. Anna broke his fast. The nation celebrated the victory as a milestone in the national battle against corruption.

Everyone is aware that this is just the beginning. First, the joint committee shall prepare the bill to be introduced in the next session of parliament. It will be a chore to get it passed because the bill would create a powerful authority that can investigate every graft and punish if found guilty. This process, no Lok Pal, as is the case today found sterile. The magnitude of the embezzlement of public funds has surprised the nation and the people are in no mood to give the perpetrators the constitutional rights and guarantees.

Anna has said the Government should be ready to go home if they can not pass

Indian police break up protest yoga guru to fight corruption

Indian police have used tear gas and batons to disperse a mass protest against corruption led by the guru of India's most famous yoga in the last high-level confrontation between authorities and activists.

At least 30 people were injured, several seriously, in scenes of chaos in the capital, Delhi, after talks between the government and the saffron-robed guru Swami Ramdev to end the protest broke down.

As government officials appeared on television threatens "decisive action", the police showed up and began to disperse tens of thousands of protesters, many from rural areas or small towns, who had gathered under a tent in the center the capital. Some of Ramdev's supporters threw stones at police.

Ramdev, who rose from humble origins to run an empire of 20 million pounds of ashrams and alternative medicine, was arrested while trying to dress up in women's clothes, and was transferred to the northern town of Haridwar, which has its headquarters.

"I could not imagine a more clumsy handling government," said Professor Jayati Ghosh, an Indian economist and respected analyst.

Ramdev, which attracts television audiences of up to 30 million euros and international network of ashrams which includes one on an island in Scotland, had begun his fast "unto death" on Saturday morning.

The incident is likely to further embarrass the government into crisis Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, and fuel public anger over a series of huge corruption scandals.

Corruption has long been a problem in India. Payment of bribes is a small part of everyday life and ministers, bureaucrats, military and other officials repeatedly found to have made large sums of money illegally.

The issue has become a focus of frustration with the current government, a coalition led by the Congress Party. A recent scam may have cost the country up to £ 25 billion.

The leaders of the main opposition party in India, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), attacked the Congress party and said the police action was "a shameful chapter in democracy of this country."

Ramdev criticized the Congress President Sonia Gandhi's Italian origin, saying that she did not seem to love the Indians, a charge often made by right in India.

Congress party figures said that Ramdev was linked to opposition parties, including extremist Hindu nationalist groups.

Digvijay Singh, a senior Congress leader had earlier questioned Ramdev luxurious lifestyle and called his campaign a "five star" of protest, accused the guru of inciting people.

"We can not allow people like Ramdev run riot in a capital city like Delhi. Some laws, some rules must be followed," said Singh. "And while he has been allowed to yoga Shivir [field], what was he doing there?" He was trying to agitate people. "

Political analysts say the recent campaign against corruption has, in part, met the public support because they exist outside the established policy. However, both Ramdev and Anna Hazare, a veteran social activist who launched a similar protest against corruption in April, are deeply conservative views on a wide range of issues.

Ramdev does not like Coca-Cola and Western clothing, believes that the World Health Organization is a Western conspiracy and is openly homophobic. Hazare is a strict teetotaler, he believes in flogging and prohibited snuff, beef and cable television in the town where he lives near the center of the city of Pune. Both men favor the death penalty for crimes of corruption.

"Ramdev and Hazare are fundamentally very popular," said Garcia. "They are authoritarian, with a simple message and are very socially and politically conservative. Figures are presented as moral, but are not."

Both men also oppose the political arena itself, a possible reason for the increased intensity of their activism.

Hazare on Sunday pledged to fast again. So did Ramdev, who plans to launch a political party to participate in the general election of 2014.

"My hunger strike is not over. I will continue the fast," Ramdev told a news conference.

The guru, who has made a fortune through alternative medicine, has asked the government to pursue billions of dollars in illegal funds abroad. Huge amounts of money have disappeared from India, one of the fastest growing economies in the world in recent decades.

Ramdev also called for a ban on high-denomination notes - 500 and 1,000 rupees (£ 7 and £ 14) - representing a huge amount of money for the hundreds of millions of people in India living on less than £ 1 day.

Corruption is said to be present at such a large scale in India, threatening the continuity of the country's economic success, pushing the stock market and investor concern.

Analysts are concerned that recent examples of corruption in the new post of fundamental reforms aimed at boosting foreign investment and improve the deplorable infrastructure in India, many projects which have been repeatedly postponed, partly due to opposition protests over the corruption that causes the parliamentary deadlock.
Corruption in India

Recent high-profile scandals in India have included corruption scam 2G - the name of the mobile phone technology in India which reportedly sold off at cut-rate price in exchange for bribes - and complaints of fraud in the preparations for the Commonwealth Games 2010 in Delhi. 2G The scam is believed to have cost the country up to £ 25 billion. An investigation has resulted in the jailing of a former minister and daughter of a political leader in southern India. An investigation into the 2010 Games is ongoing, but has led to the arrest of senior positions in the ruling Congress Party.

Other scandals have included a luxury development built for the widows of war heroes was appropriated by politicians, senior officials and bureaucrats in the commercial capital of Mumbai, and the revelations of corruption in state programs subsidized food distribution the poor. In the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, where 200 million poor people live mainly in the extent of corruption and the scope of the program, potentially the largest single instance of corruption in the world, with tens of thousands of officials, thousands of politicians and more than £ 30 billion dollars in aid involved.

Few sectors have been touched. A recent scandal was less cash to influence. A series of wiretaps released to the media revealed the corporate lobbyists, apparently discussing the appointment of cabinet ministers and journalists. There are scandals regularly over "paid news" by the newspapers which accept cash to run particular stories. Senior bank officials have been accused of accepting bribes for granting loans to companies. Many senior judges are alleged to be corrupt. A former chief justice is investigating.

Ramdev police crackdown on civil society joins

New Delhi: Baba Ramdev's Satyagraha may have come to an abrupt end, but its impact is still being felt. Team Anna Hazare, which used to be considered his rival, has now decided to boycott the Lokpal meet called on Monday to express their support for Ramdev.

"The Government is trying to crush the anti-corruption movement. We have therefore decided not to attend the joint committee meeting on Monday," said lawyer and Lokpal Bill Drafting Committee member Shanti Bhushan.

Anna Hazare, the original crusader against corruption and someone who was beginning to feel a bit uneasy with Ramdev's fellow campaigners, has now come out in his support.

"This is a mockery of democracy. It is worse than what happened in Jallianwala Bagh," said Anna Hazare.

"The govt gave him permission for a yoga shiver knowing that he was going on a fast. What happened was unethical," said Kiran Bedi.

Activists who had criticised Ramdev for his affinity with the RSS and the BJP and condemned the presence of Sadhvi Rithambara on his stage, too seemed to soften their stand.

"We are fighting for the same issues. I have problems with his demands for capital punishment and the fact that he allowed communal elements on his stage, but I agree with most of the other issues," said lawyer and Lokpal Bill Drafting Committee member Prashant Bhushan.

With the kind of a treatment meted out, the ideological barrier against Baba has been broken.

"In a democracy there is space for dissent. The Lokpal panel may not have been in agreement with Ramdev but he was well within his rights to launch his own movement," said NAC member Harsh Mandar.

Till Saturday, the civil society was divided on whether or not to support Baba Ramdev. But after Saturday night's police crackdown they've come out strongly in his support. At the end of the day, it's not Ramdev but the Government's image that has taken a beating.

Shoot the corrupt: Baba Ramdev

Those found guilty of corruption should be shot dead, the yoga guru Baba Ramdev said Sunday during a protest at Bharat Swabhiman his political party against alleged graft in the recently concluded Commonwealth Games. "India needs to run atleast 20 corrupt officials to terrorize the corrupt min
isters who have made a fortune at the expense of taxpayers, "he said, referring to the alleged corruption surrounding the Games.

"We must follow the Chinese example of shooting to death those found guilty of corruption. India can not emerge financially to politicians, bureaucrats and officials to defraud Indian taxpayers are punished," said Ramdev, addressing supporters at his rally of protest in Jantar Mantar in central Delhi.

Ramdev went to the concentration after returning from the Police Station Parliament Street, where, along with former police officer Kiran Bedi and the right to information (RTI) activist Arvind Kejriwal Sunday filed a first- information against the alleged corruption in the 3 to October 14 games.
