Corruption India: Indian-Americans come out in support of Anna Hazare

WASHINGTON: Coming out in support of Anna Hazare, Indian-Americans have called on the government of India to take serious measures to curb the menace of corruption in the country.

"We want to eliminate corruption NRIs in India. We support the efforts of Anna Hazare to eradicate corruption, the law is passed Lokpal black money and declare as national assets," said Kendra Dnyanoba, a yoga teacher in Pennsylvania.

Of all the protests in India in recent times, this is the most legitimate and grass root level, which can change the destiny of the country, said Rangarajan, a student at the University of Maryland.

Another student, Umang Agarawal said they are sending an email from the Supreme Court in mass directly to take action suo motu and save the nation.

"More than the fight against the Indians against corruption, it seems the government is fighting against people who fight against corruption. This will be one of the defining moments in the history of India," Jha said Vibhash, a student doctorate at the University of Maryland.

Indian-Americans in and around Washington for the third day held a demonstration outside the embassy of India here. Similar events in support of Hazare was reported across the country as well.

A large number of American Indians held a similar protest outside the consulate of India in Houston.

"We are in Houston NRI feel connected with the movement in India and are expressing their support in various forms, such as Facebook, Twitter, Google, websites, in addition to its presence in local meetings around the apartment club houses, parks and other public places in the community, "said Raghava R Solipuram.

Shocked and saddened by the arrest of Hazare and his supporters, non-resident Indians for Secular and Harmonious India (NRI-SAHI) said the India-Americans support the demand for equipment for Anna to each under the Lok Pal Bill Jan .

"We demand that the government of India to fulfill its promise and enact effective anti-corruption Bill," the NRI-SAHI.

In a statement, Atlanta-based U.S. Hindu Alliance strongly condemned the measures taken by the government of India against the peaceful and democratic movement against corruption led by Hazare.

"The right to free speech and the right to protest peacefully have been won by the people of India after a long struggle involving the slaughter of millions of its inhabitants.

"Hindus around the world can not remain silent spectators when the government takes away the fruits of liberation movement in India and attempts to create a policy environment that has all the characteristics of a police state," he said.
